Spring Forward ~

One year ago this week (St. Kramer's Day 2015) we started hanging drywall in our brewery.... Crazy to sit here today and see how far we've come.  Thank you for everyone's help, without you we wouldn't be here!

With spring upon us we're super stoked to get outside and enjoy the changing seasons.  Though much earlier than we would have liked, it's time to get the bikes back out.  So if you're around this Saturday afternoon venture out to Rattlesnake and bring your bike (and cup) for a little early season riding and Jimmy Lim's official moving to Oregon party.

Beer:30
  • CROWLER - Tomorrow (Friday 3/20/2015) we'll be celebrating the release of the JLB CROWLER!  Mozy into the tasting room and order a 32oz can (pictured below) of any beer we have on draft (aside from the Silver Lake Saison cuz we're down to the last keg) and we'll fill and seam it right before your eyes.  Trust me, it's not magic, but it is an awesome new to-go packaging option we're offering for those that don't need a full 64oz growler.
  • Gulllllager - Projected for release Friday March 28th, this super dry/clean lemony, dry hopped to hell, low alcohol lager is going to be a hit so get some while you can because we only made 15bbls of it.
  • Sasquatchito IPA - Projected for release Friday April 3rd, the Sasquatchito IPA is the result of a misguided attempt to breed a chupacabra with a sasquatch... Thus the legend of the Mexican Shetland Sasquatch was born.  Though not much is known of this mythical creature rumored native to the June Lake area, it is known the Sasquatchito is extremely fond of dry hops, so we're dry hopping this 6.6% IPA with an obscene amount of Falconer's Flight, Citra and possibly Amarillo.
Just in - The legendary Alpine Beer Company of San Diego County has confirmed they will be coming to the 3rd Annual June Lake Autumn Beer Fest, so get your tickets NOW before it's too late.

Cheers!

The June Lake High Country

Yahoo 4 Amazing Terrain ~

It's why we love this area, and we've been stoked in February to get out into our local high country and shred the gnar.  If you don't live here (yet...) take our word the riding/skiing of late has been super fun, and you should probably hop in your vehicle of choice and locomote your way up.  If gravity induced snow sliding isn't your thing the limited snowfall has made hiking a pretty sweet option for this time of year as well.

Beer:
  • Kilmister Ginger Beer v3.0 - almost done and should be ready for release into the wild at JLB Friday March 6th
  • Hutte Double IPA - newest batch has fully attenuated and is looking ready for re-release (we currently only have bottles available) no later than St. Kramer's Day (Tuesday March 17th)
  • Gulllllager - dryhopped with a bunch of Falconer's Flight, this super session XPL is currently lagering and should be ready for release on Friday March 27th (proper lagering takes longer, that's why we don't do usually make them)
  • Sasquatchito IPA - currently in recipe development, this single IPA is going to come in around 7% and contain a whole mess of dryhopped amazingness (look for an early April release)
Events:
  • JLB Aniversario Numero Uno - Sunday June 21st
  • 2015 Bluesapalooza - Saturday August 1st
  • 3rd Annual June Lake Autumn Beer Festival - Saturday October 10th
If you plan to attend any of these events we highly encourage you to get your lodging accommodations booked and your tickets purchased now (no tickets required for JLB Aniversario).  Though over six months away, both the Grand Tasting at Bluesapalooza and the JLABF Super Awesome Beer Garden (June Lake Autumn Beer Festival) have limited tickets, and will sellout well in advance.

Cheers!

Hoppy New Year

Hoppy 2015 Intraweb!

That's right we're rolling in the new year with a bang!  I know it's been a hot minute since we've sent out a JLBooze Letter, but it's been a crazy January.  From organizing our first anniversary party, to brewing our first lager, we've had our hands full.  Not to mention the crazy amount of support and visitors we experienced over the holidays.

Jumping straight into beer, we've got some fun stuff brewing... Anticipating the slowdown after the holidays we decided to get all mad scientist and brew our first ever lager.  Utilizing White Labs American Lager Yeast, and a grain bill split between Pilsner and 2-Row Pale, our Gullllllllllllllager will be rolling in just shy of 4% ABV with an IBU of 18.  I can almost hear the hop heads out there crying about that last part, but before you get all seppuku on us give me a chance to elaborate... International Bitterness Unit (IBU) only measures the amount of bitterness, not the amount of hop flavor and aroma (not really sure how to measure that cuz I'm not a chemist).  We plan to dryhop this beer with over 22lbs of Falconer's Flight (which is a blend of some of the most sought after aroma hops from the Pacific Northwest).  So though this beer will not be bitter hoppy by any means, it will be jammed packed with tropical, floral, lemony, grapefruitesk hop magic.  So technically this little gem will be an Xtra Pale Lager (XPL).

Also brewing is our next batch of Kilmister Ginger Beer.  With 30% more ginger and a slightly lower alcohol level, we're really excited to get everyone's opinion on this ever evolving fermulation.  Lastly our newest batch of Hutte Double IPA stalled on it's fermentation, so we had to blast it with some of the American Lager Yeast from the Gulllllllllllllllager to get it back on track.  What this will do for the final beer we have no idea, but be sure to come by and try it late February.

On the event front, mark your calendars because we're planning to have our first anniversary party Sunday June 21st (summer solstice).  Also of note is this year's 3rd Annual June Lake Autumn Beer Festival slated for Saturday October 10th (get more info and your tickets HERE).  Both of these highly anticipated events will draw large crowds, so get all of your lodging locked down ASAP so that you aren't left out in the cold.

In closing thank you everyone for the tremendous amount of support we received in 2014, we couldn't have done this without you.  Here's to an amazing 2015!

Cheers!

Time of Snow ~

That's right winter has arrived!  Apologies for the lack of snowpics, our trained primate we call a photographer is in SD for the 18th Annual Pizza Port Carlsbad Strong Ale Festival and apparently everyone else is out ripping the gnar and unable to operate their optical capture devices.  So the above pic of our last bike ride of the year taken on June Mountain just above the chalet (now completely under snow) will have to suffice.

That's right, if you haven't gotten your tickets to the 18th Annual Pizza Port Carlsbad Strong Ale Festival I highly advise you to do so at once!  We'll be there Saturday for all the 8%+ glory, so grab a ticket and come help the JLB TestPilot Team conquer the 75+ mindbending beers.  Also if you're around The San Diego tomorrow you can meet up with the TestPilot Team at some point in our SD brewery pre-game training tour -
http://goo.gl/q45fpb - show up, or hit us back with an email if you're interested...

Last but certainly not least June Mountain opens in just over a week and we're freaking pumped!  With the latest snowfall and the projected goodness we may get late next week, the opening day (Saturday December 13th) should be pretty awesome.  Oh yeah and we'll be on hand with fresh JLB for the opening toast!  Also come by the brewery after the rip fest and grab a pint of our Not So Hoppy Holiday Ale we're releasing in celebration of the opening.

Cheers!

Happy Six Month BDAY!

Cerveza Fuerte ~

So we've made it through the first six months without imploding and continue to make Super Awesome Beer!  Huge amounts of gratitude and thank yous go out to everyone for supporting June Lake Brewing and making this a reality.

In celebration of the momentous occasion we've decided to take some of our beer down to San Diego for our 3rd favorite beer fest on the planet (June Lake Beer Fest and Bluesapalooza in Mammoth being #1 and #2 respectively).  Head out to Pizza Port Carlsbad's 18th Annual Strong Ale Festival December 5th and 6th to get yourself some JLB on tap for the first time outside of Mono County!  Our Hutte Double IPA (9.5% ABV) will be pouring along with 75+ other beers over 8% ABV.  If I haven't convinced you yet, maybe beer drinking isn't for you...  The JLB TestPilots will be in attendance Saturday December 6th, so if you want to meet up with us buy a ticket and let us know (these types of high octane fermulations are best conquered in groups).

On the beer front we've got our Not So Hoppy Holiday Ale bubbling away nicely.  With the additions of ginger, sweet orange peel, nutmeg, vanilla beans, cinnamon sticks, seeds of paradise and ground clove, we seek to bring holiday flavor into the realm of Super Awesome Beer.  Ready mid December, the Trappist style yeast we used for fermentation looks to be bringing this beer in around 5.5% ABV with our lowest ever IBU of 19 (hence the name Not So Hoppy... picture a crying Santa Claus).  Don't worry though, this was one of the communities favorite beers we made on our pilot system, and the production batch has been sampling mighty fine!

Moving into winter the snowflakes have begun to fly, and we're gearing up for a busy year on the mountains.  That's right, JLB will be available at both June Mountain's World Famous Antler Bar, and The Mill bar and restaurant at Mammoth Mountain!  Though very exciting, we've now got to focus on making enough beer to meet the demand while still ensuring all of you can experience the full spectrum of June Lake Brewing's Super Awesome Beer at our tasting room.  So come by soon to grab a pint, and remeber we've got Ohanas 395 posted up all winter for freaking amazing Hawaiian Soul Food stumbling distance from our front door.

Cheers!

Snow is Near, But Beer is Here ~

Don't panic, we haven't forgotten about all you Intrawebbers... It's been a month, but oh what a month it's been.  Big thanks to all those that made it out to the second annual June Lake Autumn Beer Festival Saturday October 11th.  If you missed the debauchery be sure to mark your calendar for next year as it will surely be a kickass time all over again, and who knows if you're lucky maybe Justin will pour beer on you too.

With summer winding down and fall in full effect JLB is gearing up for winter and getting ready for the June Mountain Locals Pass Sale this Saturday, October 25, at the June Mountain parking lot and ticket office.  Come down from 2pm - 7pm to get a super deal on the greatest season pass on earth and afterwards drop by JLB for live music at 5pm from the likes of Brandon Baker.  That's right we've got some killer tunes lined up for your auditory enjoyment so come by and grab a coldy.

On the beer front we've released our Rock-N-Dirt Milk Stout to much acclaim and adoration from heavy equipment operators everywhere.  At 4.7% ABV and 27 IBU this brew is a mellow, creamy, velvety treat that will leave you sober enough to get back in that skip loader after lunch.  Made with real cows (*not really made with cows, just lactose sugar), this traditional sweet stout relies on English Ale yeast to make the booze and chocolate malt to round out the flavor.  Also released into the wild, our ESBzar is the new locals favorite.  In homage to our fallen friend Larry "BZ" Miller, we created this beer as a thank you for all the help BZ provided the brewery, and the community of June Lake.  As a traditional Extra Special Bitter, the ESBzar was crafted with ESB malt, Golding and Fuggle hops, and English Ale yeast.  Full disclosure: to keep it JLB we did dry hop it with 22lbs of Fuggles.  BZ Miller, gone but never forgotten.

In a parting note get ready for the release of the second version of the Kilmister Ginger Beer this Saturday October 25.  Get some while you can as we only made 30 gallons (still honing in the recipe).  Oh yeah we also got more stainless steel insulated growlers back in stock so come on by and pick one up so you too can have cold beer wherever you may roam.

Cheers!

Hurray for our Fire Fighters ~

As some of you may have heard a MAJOR fire started at June Mountain on Tuesday September 16th and almost burned down the brewery and the entire town.  Thanks to the efforts of all our local fire departments, our wildland fire response teams and CalFire, the towering inferno was contained and is no longer a threat to our community and most importantly our super awesome beer.  So raise a pint and sing out your praise for all those who helped avert what could have very easily been the end of our community as we know it.

On the beer front we've got our Rock n' Dirt Milk Stout poised for release next Friday September 16th so come by and try this velvety smooth 4.7% abv lactose infused beauty.  Also don't forget to get your tickets and lodging lined up for the second annual June Lake Autumn Beer Festival Saturday October 11th - http://www.eventbrite.com/e/2nd-annual-june-lake-autumn-beer-festival-tickets-11871537087

If you're around the Mammoth area this weekend be sure to check out the Kamikaze Bike games starting today, Friday September 19th.  Sarah will be racing in the women's Cat2 Kamikaze downhill race this afternoon so come out and cheer her on.  The finish will be at Canyon Lodge and JLB is sure to be in attendance (bring your own cup).  Also we'll be posted up at the upper Bullet rock garden for tomorrow's Cat1 and GST pro downhill races so don't miss this most awesome of events.

Cheers!

Shirts are Here ~

That's right we've got shirts, stainless growlers, cups, and all the other accouterments in stock.  Tragically we're not setup for ecommerce at this point, and are seriously working ~12+ hours per day, so the logistical reality of filling one-off mail orders isn't viable (unless you want Justin to stop making beer...).  So sorry, but we feel beer is more important than swag.

Speaking of beer, the Hutte Double IPA will be released into the wild this Friday at 11am!  So for those missing a huge hopped beer in their lives, come on by for 9.5% abv of hopalicious pallet anihilation.  Also in beer news we'll be brewing our Mammoth Rock n' Dirt Milk Stout this Saturday, so expect some dirty brown lactose laden goodness available on nitro in about a month.

Also on the beer front we've finally received our ABC approved 12oz bottle labels and we're selling bottled beer!  Get down to Mammoth Liquors (Home of over 200 Beers), Fern Creek Market, or of course the JLB Tasting Room to get yours while they last.  Due to the near extortion level pricing of the glass, labels, caps, holders, boxes and the time/labor/beer loss involved in packaging by hand, it is unknown when we'll be able to bottle again.  So boogie over to the aforementioned purveyors of awesomeness to get a piece for yourself.

With the DH season approaching a close the JLB TestPilot Team is in rare form and should take some top spots at the last Village Championship DH race on Kamikaze this Friday (come on out and Heckle for some Hutte DIPA), not to mention the Kamikaze Bike Games September 18th - 21st.

Aside from that we've got some crazy beers coming down the pipeline and can't wait to see you on the trail, or in the tasting room.

Cheers!
Justin/Sarah

Kilmister Ginger Beer ~

That's right folks, it's finally time!  This Sunday at 11am we will be tapping our first 1bbl pilot batch of Kilmister Ginger Beer at our tasting room.  Be there early because this stuff is going to go quick.  With a 28 gallon yield we have less than two kegs worth so get it while you can.  Sorry in advance, but absolutely no growler fills :-(

Also on Sunday at 5:30pm we're hosting the June Lake Brewing Gran FollowMe trail ride.  This is an hour to an hour and a half intermediate trail ride followed by $1 beers for all the riders that participate (that are over 21 of course).  Meet at the tasting room with your favorite riding attire and wheeled apparatus at 5:30pm Sunday, and we'll head out to have some fun around 6pm.  More info here - https://www.facebook.com/events/666222573452439/

In other beer news we'll be releasing our Silver Lake Saison tomorrow (Friday August 15th).  This is our lightest color, flavor and alcohol beer to date.  Finishing up around 4.9% ABV and 26 IBU, this beer is clean, dry and an all around good time.

To round out beer releases our Archimedes Red is on track for beligeration Friday August 22nd, and the much anticipated Hutte Double IPA will be following up with ultimate palate domination the last Friday of the month (August 29th).  So plan accordingly and join us on a beerventure of your own.

Big thanks goes out to everyone that made Bluesapalooza two weeks ago, and the 60th annual June Lake Fireman's BBQ this past Saturday.  If you missed them be sure to make it out to the upcoming Kamikaze Bike Games September 18th - 21st.  Rumor has it JLB will be posted up at the upper Bullet Rock Garden for the Pro DH race Saturday the 20th to heckle and generally cause disruption.

This just in: Stainless Steel Cups and Growlers are back in stock!  So come on by the tasting room between 11am and 8pm any day but Tuesday (the one day we're closed) and check out what we've got ripping.

Cheers!

Bluesapalooza Time ~

It's our favorite time of year.... Bluesapalooza Time!  That's right our good friends at Mammoth Brewing are gearing up to host the 19th annual Blues and Brews fest known as Bluesapalooza.  If you don't know about this mindbottling experience, drop everything you're doing, locomotor as able, and get to Mammoth Lakes.... NOW!  Basically three days (this weekend) of amazing music accompanied by one million craft breweries (*not really one million, but it's a good round number), and some phenomenal food.  Check the intraweb for more info - http://mammothbluesbrewsfest.com/

Tragically the June Lake Brewing tasting room will be closed this Saturday August 2nd to facilitate the sharing of JLB Super Awesome Beer with the world (or maybe just the couple thousand people in attendance) at the infamous Bluesapalooza Grand Tasting.

Stop the press... JLB has started distribution and will be available starting 5pm tonight, July 31st, 2014 at Clocktower Cellar - www.clocktowercellar.com - across from the Mammoth Village Gondola below the Alpenhof Lodge.  Our first four beers will be available, so get them while you can cuz supplies have been dwindling due to the overwhelming traffic we've been getting at our tasting room.

In other JLB news we had a killer turnout for the June Lake Music Festival last weekend, and look forward to working with the organizers to have an even better event next year.  Thanks to everyone that came out!

As indicated we got a little crazy over the last couple weeks and busted out another eight 15bbl batches, filling our four 30bbl conicals with the following JLB goodness:
  • 30bbl Archimedes Imperial Red (RIP Tyson)
  • 30bbl Hutte Double IPA (can you say 11% ABV?)
  • 30bbl Silver Lake Saison (at 3.5% ABV it makes up for the Hutte)
  • 30bbl Deer Beer Brown (it always goes down smooth)
  • 1bbl Kilmister Ginger Beer (*stay tuned for special release)
These beauties should be ready for consumption late August... ***Warning... due to the limited amount (two 15.5g kegs) of the Kilmister Ginger Beer, we will have a special TBD release party, and will only announce it to this list and on the JLB facebook page.  So pay attention...

You've been asking and we're restocking.  That's right we're expecting new shirts and hats in multiple colors, along with replenishments of our ever popular double wall/insulated stainless steel growlers and stainless steel pint glasses.  Also we've ordered some super jazzy growler koozies, so stay tuned for arrival/availability announcements.

CHEERS!
