Open June Mountain ~

Mountain Life Update: Mark your calenders because June Mountain Ski Area is set to open this Friday the 13th!  We're really excited to get back up on the hill, so find us on Friday or Saturday for a little post ride/ski beer in the village.

Progress Update: our intrepid team of design professionals have addressed the comments that came back from plan check regarding our remodel permit and have resubmitted an updated design.  What this means is we should hopefully have our final building permit by the new year, and will be able to start our interior build out in preparation for equipment acquisition (currently on order) set for late spring of 2014!

Beer Update: Our tasty "Not So Hoppy Holiday Ale" is back this year as one of our last pre-launch testbatches.  Brewed with Pale 2-Row, Munich, Aromatic, Carmel/Crystal, Chocolate, White and Torrified Wheat malts, along with nutmeg, vanilla bean, fresh ginger, cinnamon, juniper berries, seeds of paradise, sweet orange peel, cloves, honey and holiday spirit.  This 6.1% ABV beer is our favorite way to kick-off the holiday season, and it deviates from our rather hoppy disposition. Kickstarter Update: As you probably know from our MEGA barrage of updates and emails we gave it a valiant effort, but in the end didn't hit our JLBKickstarter goal.  This means none of the pledgers are being charged, and even worse we won't be receiving any of those pledges.  Overall it was a great experience and we accumulated 300+ new Facebook friends.  That being said we're still starting this brewery, and have had 72 pledgers commit to over $10k of our original pledge amount.  That's almost 50% of the amount reached during the campaign!  So if you pledged to the campaign and you're still interested in fulfilling that pledge email justin@junelakebrewing.com and we'll make this thing happen.

Thanks for all the support, and Cheers!

Last Day to Fund
June Lake Brewing

So it's the last day to support the JLB Kickstarter campaign and we're totally stoked on all of the support we've received from everyone. With Black Friday and the unabashed North American consumerism that accompanies it in full swing, we are giving it one last push to reach our funding goal.  BuyBuyBuyBuyBuy!!!!

If you haven't pledged, and are able, please do so now.

Also share it with all your friends today - www.junelakebrewing.com

As previously indicated we set a pretty lofty goal on our fundraising campaign, and it's looking pretty far away as I type this, but we plan to start the brewery regardless (it may just be a little less shiny).  With that in mind if we do not reach our goal we could still use your pledges, and would like to fulfill your desired rewards.  If it's looking grim at the end of today, we'll reach out to each individual pledger and ask them to contact Justin - justin@junelakebrewing.com (or 760-419-1738) - and fulfill their pledge/reward exchange in person, or via PayPal/USPS.

Thanks again, and Cheers!  We couldn't do this without all of you!!!

Only 15 Days
Left to Fund
June Lake Brewing

That's right we've only got 15 days left to reach our funding goal with the JLB Kickstarter campaign.  This  may not seem like a big deal, but the way Kickstarter works is if we don't reach our goal we don't get any of the pledges that have been made, nobody is charged their pledge amount and that means that those who have pledged will not get their snazzy rewards.  So if you have been waiting to pledge, do it now and help us spread the word about our freakin amazing campaign.  Also we really appreciate everyone that's shared our campaign with their network, but we're going to need you to keep sharing everyday until we reach our goal.
  1. Get friends to check the JLB Kickstarter
  2. Post about it on FB and Twitter
  3. If you can't remember the Kickstarter URL, just tell people to visit our website - www.junelakebrewing.com
To show our appreciation for your support we will be hosting a Kickstarter support party this Saturday November 16th @ 3pm.  If you're going to be in the June Lake area hit us up for the location and feel free to bring tasty grub and grog to share.

Thanks the mostest, and Cheers!

Autumn is Here ~

Big thanks to everyone that made it out to the first annual June Lake Autumn Beer Festival, it was an event not to be missed!  We poured through all the beer, made some money for the June Lake Chamber of Commerce and a number of other local charities, and had an amazing stein holding contest!  If you didn't make it out, check the video links below, and block off your calendars for next year.

Well after months of searching, then a couple more waiting, our proposed location is finally going in front of the Mono County Planning Commission this Thursday at 10am.  This meeting is a super big deal, and will dictate whether we're able to move forward with our plans to bring the first brewery to June Lake.  As our biggest supporters we very strongly urge you to make your voice heard and let the Planning Commission know how badly you need a brewery in June Lake.  We know 10am in the middle of the work week makes it hard for many of you to represent in person, so we've devised three options for you to let the powers that be know how it is:

  1. Show up in person to either the Bridgeport County Courthouse, or the Mono County offices in Mammoth Lakes (Sierra Center Mall, Vons shopping center above Giovanni's) at 10am sharp this Thursday in your finest JLB attire
  2. Write a short email to the Mono County Planning Commission letting them know without JLB you may be forced to riot - commdev@mono.ca.gov
  3. Take it back to the old school and hand write a letter to the Mono County Planning Commission basically telling them you're so committed to getting a brewery in June Lake you will write your Senators if your views are ignored - PO Box 347, Mammoth Lakes, CA  93546
If you're thinking about attending, let us know and we can organize carpools, JLB attire, etc.  If the timing just doesn't work, writing an email will literally take 60 seconds, and can be as simple as "Hey Mono County, we need a brewery in June Lake, and we will cry if it doesn't happen."  We aren't expecting opposition, but every little bit helps push The Man to fast track this thing and get us a friggin awesome brewery in June Lake!

Thanks, and Cheers!

Hurray 4 Snow ~

Weather came in Saturday afternoon in a flurry, Huzzah!  In June snow level almost came down to the Village, and in our estimation was around 7,800', with upward of 4"+ above 8,500'.  So what better to do than venture upwards on a Fern Creek to Yost Meadow hike.  We don't know about you, but we're REALLY excited for June Mountain to resume operations this year on December 14th!

In beer news, we're gearing up for the 1st Annual June Lake Autumn Beer Festival.  That's right peoples, be here Saturday October 5th from 10am - 6pm to witness what's sure to become a yearly celebration of suds, sounds and the forth coming season of shredtacular awesomeness!  We're super excited to have some of our good friends from Cismontane, Green Flash, Ballast Point, Pizza Port Cbad, and Mammoth Brewing Company pouring some of their tastiest fermulations for the thirsty masses. At $25 for six 10oz pours and a bratwurst, you can get your fill without breaking the bank.  There will also be local craft and food vendors, a monumental chili cook-off, pie baking contest, and a photo showdown that's sure to capture the June Lake fall colors in vivid photocromatic splendor.  Be there!

Lastly on the location front, we're moving forward with the county, and we've got a pretty pivotal planning commission hearing on Thursday October 10th.  The hearing is open to the public, and if you're around we highly encourage you to show up and support everything we're trying to do.  After all, without all of you we're just another business doing pointless business stuff.  We'll provide more details (i.e., location, exact time, proper costume selection, etc...) in our next news letter, so stay tuned.

Until then, Cheers!

Bonzai!

Wow, Mammoth Mountain Kamikaze Games was friggin amazing!  Our JLB DH TestPilots where dropping podiums left and right, and holding it down for the Eastern Sierras.  Big shout outs to JLB TestPilot Johnny "Nipple" Kimball with a first place in the Cat2 division of the Kamikaze 2.0 race on Friday, and then another first place Saturday in the Cat2 DH race on Follow Me.  Come next year Johnny will be looking to get his pro card and send it with the best of them.  Also props go to Johnny Widen, Thomas "Alex" McCoy, and the rest of the JLB cats holding it down.  Check the visual evidence for a taste of the complete gravitational domination (to the right and below), and be there next year!

We're moving forward with our quest for a location, and we're excited for our October 10th hearing with the Mono County Planning Commission.  If you're in the Mammoth area Thursday October 10th, please come by the County Offices and show your support.  Once the Planning Commission weighs in we hope to move forward with our permitting process and begin our renovations to make our location the most awesomest brewery/beer tasting establishment that June Lake has ever seen!

On the beer front we're pushing forward with planning for the 1st Annual June Lake Autumn Beer Festival on October 5th, so get your reservations lined up cuz our brewery lineup is pretty sweet!

Cheers!

Harvest Time in the Sierra~

With the end of summer approaching it's hop picking time in the Northern Hemisphere!  And of course that means this year's batch of Northern Hemi fresh (aka wet) hop beers are currently being brewed across the country.  Hops are basically a weed that bud a flower once a year, but despite the veracity of the plant the flower is rather fragile and is only optimal for harvest over about a two week period each year.  Additionally once harvested the lupulin, volitile oils and other super awesome stuff that makes fabulous beer begin to dissipate.  With this in mind the ideal wet hop beer is made the same day the hops are picked.

So we gathered up TestPilot MariBeth and little Natty and ventured out to Banner Springs Ranch organic hop and vegetable farm near Benton Crossing to pick fresh Cascade hops with our good friends from Mammoth Brewing Company.  After picking our fill we pitched in and helped pick hops for MBC, and their forth coming wet harvest beer for this year.  Heading back home we fired up our homebrew system and busted out a killer XPA (aka all day IPA).  Basically this beer is a lighter alcohol IPA, but don't let the lower alcohol fool you, this beast has almost six pounds of fresh organic Cascade hops packed into the one barrel batch.  So it's a single hop beer (meaning we only used one type of hops for the bittering, flavor and aroma hop additions), made with fresh (less than four hours old) locally grown Cascade hops.  We don't really have a name that we're fond of yet, so let us know what you think on our Facebook page - Name that XPA.

Last Friday was the last Mammoth Village Championship Downhill race and our riders didn't disappoint with TestPilot 00 Jimmy Lim catching a podium spot, and three of our other boys in the top ten.  Tragically with the end of summer comes the closing of the Mammoth Mountain bikepark... le sigh...  But don't fret just yet, it should be open until early October, and with the Kamakaze Downhill Games slated for the first week of September we're pretty pumped up to see our DH TestPilot Team show up and put up some smoking fast times.  If you can make it, be here.

Lastly on the location front we're slated to have our use permit for our proposed location presented to the Mono County Planning Commission on October 10th, and have been working closely with the Planning Department, Building Department, Public Utilities Department, Fire Marshal and everyone else involved to ensure we properly address all concerns and can make JLB a reality.  So what that means is after we hear from the Planning Commission, we can hopefully obtain a conditional use permit, and move forward with the needed building renovations before it gets too snowy.

That's all for now, thanks for the continued support, and don't forget to get here for the 1st Annual June Lake Autumn Beer Festival on October 5th.

Cheers!

Party Time ~

Big thanks goes out to Mammoth Brewing Company for putting on the 18th annual Bluesapalooza and Grand Tasting.  It did not disappoint.  If you made it out you're probably still smiling, and if you didn't you really blew it and should go cry in the corner for a couple days.  As if Bluesa wasn't enough, this past Saturday was the 59th annual June Lake Fireman's BBQ.  Helping out behind the bar we ensured everyone was properly lubricated and kicked down tips to help fund our all volunteer department.  Good times had by all...

In other party news, we're working with the June Lake Chamber of Commerce to help organize the 1st annual June Lake Autumn Beer Festival slated for Saturday October 5th.  Block off your calendars and start making excuses to your boss, because this is going to be an afternoon of drinking and decadence that can't be missed.  With a visiting brewery roster that includes, but is hardly limited to Cismontane, Mammoth Brewing Company, Green Flash, and Tahoe Mountain Brewery, we're going to have a romp raging good time oompa-ing along to tunes from the Kalifornia Krauts.  Complete with a totally artificially authentic German stein holding contest, the first ever Eastern Sierra Master Chili Cook Off, a pie baking competition and an autumn photo death match, we've got everything including the kitchen sink.  Tragically we won't have our license yet, so JLB won't be available, but don't let that detour you cuz this is going to be the first JLABF of many and you know you want to say you were there to make history.

Finally on the beer front, our Grant Lake Golden Tart turned out phenomenally and has been a big hit with everyone that's been lucky enough to try some.  If you're around JL anytime soon, hit us up, and if we've got any left we'll be more than happy to let you take it for a test-drive and decide for yourself.

Cheers!
