Gad Zooks ~

Wow, totally apologize for the radio silence (last update was April Fools), but it's really been that busy.  From cutting down and milling the bar (thanks for the help Johnny) to standing/placing our tanks and brewhouse, we've been checking boxes off the ever shortening list.  Check a snippet of our forth coming construction time lapse - http://vimeo.com/92418265.  Our Director of Visual Awesomeness (yeah Robert Bradford!) is masterminding the full time lapse for release after opening and it's going to be world detonating.  So yeah this is totally happening!

Here's most of the stuff we've got left:
  • Hardwire all equipment + finish general electric
  • Finish plumbing to brewhouse + HLT
  • Finish coldbox
  • Drill/epoxy tank hold downs + special inspection
  • Install burner stack + brewhouse vent
  • Install icebreak + gutter
  • Plumb + install glycol system
  • Receive raw materials + ancillaries
  • Full deep clean of production facility + brewhouse/tanks
  • Final county inspection/signoff
  • Test brews
  • Full on production!
  • Start/finish tasting room + bar
  • Start/finish exterior + signage
  • GRAND OPENING!
Hard to believe we've come so far... big thanks to all of you for supporting and helping where you can.  Hopefully next bi-weekly booze letter (circa ~ May 15) we'll have a solid Grand Opening date to announce, but I can tell you something will be going down towards the end of June.  The big timing thing is making the beer (go figure...).

Right now we've allotted ~20 days from the day we brew our first production batch until we can open, so we basically have a month to get the production area buttoned up, get signoff on our building permit, and start brewing.  After that we can focus on getting the tasting room and signage dialed in.  Twenty days is plenty time to build a tasting room with a 30'+ bar made from a 100 year old Jeffery Pine tree and a genuine meat hook from the civil war era (*not sure on accuracy of actual age).

So stay tuned for developments and stop by if you want to take a look at progress, but don't get bummed if we don't have time for a full-on tour... gotta build the brewery first B-)

Thanks, and Cheers!

Let it Snow ~

With two feet of fresh snow over the past week, winter has finally arrived!  After a frantic couple of weeks getting all our trench drains cut/broke/formed and poured, not to mention getting the all important bathroom plumbing installed/inspected and poured, we were ready for a little excursion into the wild... and Ullr provided with 24" of love!  Big thanks goes out to Joe Walsh, Ramon Camacho, Doug Nelson, Phillip Michael, Johnny Kimball, Jeff Kramer, Dave Tomaszewski, Shaun Paunch Maurer, Darth Hacker, Bobman, Aaron Dore, Fitz, Mark Fogg and everyone else that made it happen, now it's time for some framing.... and more snow of course!

On the beer front the second 1bbl test batch of Alpers Trout Pale Ale was bottled last week by our trusty line of bottling chimps and it turned out swimmingly.  If you're in the June Lake area hit us up and swoop by the house for a taste of this approachable pale crafted from Pilsner/Wheat/Munich/Crystal malts and Cascade/CTZ/Crystal/Mt. Hood hops... it is delicious!  Last weekend we brewed the second 1bbl test batch of our well received Hütte Double IPA and it's fermenting along nicely.  With an OG of 1.090 and a expected final gravity of 1.018 this should yield a 9%+ DIPA with a palate annihilating 128 IBU!  Oh yeah and we plan to dry hop this monster with a pound of Citra hops.

To wrap it up, our equity offering and term sheet is ready to rock and we will be reaching out to those who've expressed interest in becoming a stock holder in June Lake Brewing by way of equity investment this week.  We'll be hosting meetings with potential investors this week in June Lake, and Sarah will be in the San Diego area next week to do the same down south.  If you've already expressed your interest in investment you'll hear from us.  If you're interested and haven't reached out, email justin@junelakebrewing.com or sarah@junelakebrewing.com for more info.

Thanks, and Stay Awesome!

Bonzai!

Wow, Mammoth Mountain Kamikaze Games was friggin amazing!  Our JLB DH TestPilots where dropping podiums left and right, and holding it down for the Eastern Sierras.  Big shout outs to JLB TestPilot Johnny "Nipple" Kimball with a first place in the Cat2 division of the Kamikaze 2.0 race on Friday, and then another first place Saturday in the Cat2 DH race on Follow Me.  Come next year Johnny will be looking to get his pro card and send it with the best of them.  Also props go to Johnny Widen, Thomas "Alex" McCoy, and the rest of the JLB cats holding it down.  Check the visual evidence for a taste of the complete gravitational domination (to the right and below), and be there next year!

We're moving forward with our quest for a location, and we're excited for our October 10th hearing with the Mono County Planning Commission.  If you're in the Mammoth area Thursday October 10th, please come by the County Offices and show your support.  Once the Planning Commission weighs in we hope to move forward with our permitting process and begin our renovations to make our location the most awesomest brewery/beer tasting establishment that June Lake has ever seen!

On the beer front we're pushing forward with planning for the 1st Annual June Lake Autumn Beer Festival on October 5th, so get your reservations lined up cuz our brewery lineup is pretty sweet!

Cheers!

Harvest Time in the Sierra~

With the end of summer approaching it's hop picking time in the Northern Hemisphere!  And of course that means this year's batch of Northern Hemi fresh (aka wet) hop beers are currently being brewed across the country.  Hops are basically a weed that bud a flower once a year, but despite the veracity of the plant the flower is rather fragile and is only optimal for harvest over about a two week period each year.  Additionally once harvested the lupulin, volitile oils and other super awesome stuff that makes fabulous beer begin to dissipate.  With this in mind the ideal wet hop beer is made the same day the hops are picked.

So we gathered up TestPilot MariBeth and little Natty and ventured out to Banner Springs Ranch organic hop and vegetable farm near Benton Crossing to pick fresh Cascade hops with our good friends from Mammoth Brewing Company.  After picking our fill we pitched in and helped pick hops for MBC, and their forth coming wet harvest beer for this year.  Heading back home we fired up our homebrew system and busted out a killer XPA (aka all day IPA).  Basically this beer is a lighter alcohol IPA, but don't let the lower alcohol fool you, this beast has almost six pounds of fresh organic Cascade hops packed into the one barrel batch.  So it's a single hop beer (meaning we only used one type of hops for the bittering, flavor and aroma hop additions), made with fresh (less than four hours old) locally grown Cascade hops.  We don't really have a name that we're fond of yet, so let us know what you think on our Facebook page - Name that XPA.

Last Friday was the last Mammoth Village Championship Downhill race and our riders didn't disappoint with TestPilot 00 Jimmy Lim catching a podium spot, and three of our other boys in the top ten.  Tragically with the end of summer comes the closing of the Mammoth Mountain bikepark... le sigh...  But don't fret just yet, it should be open until early October, and with the Kamakaze Downhill Games slated for the first week of September we're pretty pumped up to see our DH TestPilot Team show up and put up some smoking fast times.  If you can make it, be here.

Lastly on the location front we're slated to have our use permit for our proposed location presented to the Mono County Planning Commission on October 10th, and have been working closely with the Planning Department, Building Department, Public Utilities Department, Fire Marshal and everyone else involved to ensure we properly address all concerns and can make JLB a reality.  So what that means is after we hear from the Planning Commission, we can hopefully obtain a conditional use permit, and move forward with the needed building renovations before it gets too snowy.

That's all for now, thanks for the continued support, and don't forget to get here for the 1st Annual June Lake Autumn Beer Festival on October 5th.

Cheers!

Smokey The Bear~

With the Aspen fire on the westside still raging, June, Mammoth and the rest of the eastside has been enveloped in an unrelenting haze.  Unfazed by the air quality, our team of dedicated JLB TestPilot downhill racers continue to rip the mountain and represent in the Friday Village Championship Downhill races.  If you haven't been to one yet, come on out Friday afternoon and check it out for yourself.

On the beer front we're pretty jazzed up for Mammoth Brewing Company's 18th annual Bluesapalooza this weekend.  This yearly gathering of blues and breweries unites killer tunes with some of the best beer in the country (or world even).  As volunteers, Sarah and I will be helping the MBC crew setup and breakdown draft stations for the visiting breweries, we'll also have to sample some of the goods to ensure they're fit for public consumption.  From Russian River to Ninkasi, good beer will be available in abundance so if you're not already planning to attend, immediately stop what you're doing, cancel all of your plans, and get up here because it's going to be friggin awesome!

In other beer festival news, block off Saturday October 5th on your calendars because we're working with the June Lake Chamber of Commerce to put together the inaugural June Lake Autumn Beer Festival.  With the Kalifornia Krauts booked to play and Mammoth Brewing Company and Cismontane leading the brewery charge, we're gearing up for a super good time.  Tragically we won't have our license in time, so JLB will not be featured, but we assure you there will be super good beer available along with bratwurst and a real life stein holding contest!

Cheers!
