June Lake Brewing
Hutte-2-Hutte! Everyone can relax, we've conquered the Hutte-2-Hutte. Fulfilling the commitment to descend Hutte Canyon on our snowsliding gear, TestPilots Nipz, Mark Ogburn and I proceeded to road gap the highway (okay maybe my line wasn't so gappy, but I did slide over the highway via snow coverage) and ride right up to the front door of the brewery and a fresh Hutte DIPA! Hopefully we'll get some more snow later this month and will repeat this feat many times to come this season. February Beer Schedule:
Thanks and Cheers! Sarah/Justin

June Lake Brewing
Hoppy New Year! That's right, we've all made it to 2016 without a zombie invasion, or all of the computers in the world shutting down on the stroke of midnight. As for the JLB crew, we're doing what we always do: namely making Super Awesome Beer and getting outside. If you haven't had either of these in your life recently, we highly encourage you to come by and partake. In fact as your quasi spiritual council I deem it a moral imperative you stop whatever less important thing you're doing right now and meet us at the JLB Tasting Room for beer shots (after shredding the gnar of course). On the beer front we've got the GullllLager lagering away nicely in FV3, and it should be ready for re-release into the wild mid February. If you missed it last year, the GullllLager is the only lager beer we make. We start out with a super clean and light (color and flavor) traditional American lager with a grain bill split 50/50 between 2-Row Pale and Pilsner malts, we then hop the delicate beauty with a moderate amount of Cascade hops before sending it off to the fermentor to meet up with White Labs American Lager Yeast (WLP 840). This is the point where the Gulllllager deviates from any preconceived, or acknowledged beer style... Basically we dryhop the ever living shit out of it with almost two pounds per barrel of Falconer's Flight 7c blend. These hops do not impart bitterness to the finished beer, oh contraire... By adding these crazy good hops after fermentation all of the luscious fruit, citrus and piney flavors are unlocked and showcased for all to see. On the event tip, tickets for the 4th Annual June Lake Autumn Beer Festival to be held on Saturday October 1st (actually an Oktoberfest this year!) have gone on sale, so GET YOURS NOW as this event will surely sellout months before. This is a small intimate event and we intend to keep it that way, so if you want to come to June Lake, enjoy some of the best craft beer from the West Coast, and basically have a most excellent time, buy your tickets now. Until next time, Stay Awesome! Thanks and Cheers! Sarah/Justin June Lake Brewing
Snowing... Sometimes... So we have been getting some snow and certainly wintery weather, but Godzirra El Nino has yet to enter the building. Currently at 25 degrees F and snowing outside the brewery, it would seem something is bringing us a little holiday love. On the beer front we released the Pinot Noir barrel aged Carson Peak American Strong Ale to much fanfare and acclaim (at least in my mind) for the opening of June Mountain Ski Area on Saturday December 12th. It was an epic opening day up on Chair 7 with the TestPilot Crew slashing and slaying the gnar, rivaled only by the unabashed AWESOMENESS that is the barrel aged Carson Peak. I mean this shit is real good... With a slight oaky/earthy taste and the smoothness of a velvet glove, the Pinot barrels refine the blistering hop character of this huge beer to something best appreciated in a leather backed wing chair beside an oak fire. At 13% + this beer is not to be trifled with. If you're able to make it to June this holiday season stop by and say hi, and if not you can vicariously enjoy the greatest place in the Eastern Sierra though our many antics and adventures. Thanks and Cheers! Sarah and Justin June Lake Brewing
Godzzirra El Nino! That's right, Mammoth Mountain is open and ripping, and June reportedly has over three feet of snow up top! Tragically due to their Forestry Permit June will have to wait for their scheduled opening December 12th, but fear not JLB will be releasing a MONSTER BEER for the occasion. Some of you may have tried our Carson Peak American Strong Ale over the past couple months (at 13% you may not remember). For the opening of June Mountain we will be releasing our wine barrel aged version of this crazy fermulation. We squirreled away ~100 gallons of the Carson Peak in French Oak Pinot Noir barrels and it's been mutating into a true monster for the past four months. So come out for opening day and send it proper! Also on the beer front we have some exciting releases, so without further adu here is your personal scheduling tool for the remainder of 2015:
On the events front, thanks to everyone that came out for the 3rd Annual June Lake Autumn Beer Festival that transpired Saturday October 10th. It was super crazy fun and as far as we know nobody (aside from a few livers) was seriously injured. Mark your calendar because next year's June Lake Autumn Beer Festival will be held Saturday October 1st, making it a true October Fest. Stay tuned as tickets go on sale January 1st 2016. This event will sellout early! Thanks and Cheers! Sarah/Justin June Lake Brewing
JLABF Yeah! Wow, the 3rd Annual June Lake Autumn Beer Festival, Saturday October 10th, is sold out for the Beer Garten Mega Tasting. Congrats to everyone that procured a ticket (we warned you it would sell out). For those that didn't the overall festival (music, food vendors, craft fair, etc...) is free and open to the public. Also we will have a pay-by-the-pint station open in the free festival area where you can purchase a pint of JLB, all proceeds will benefit the June Lake Chamber of Commerce. VCDH Series - approaching the end of this season's free Village Championship Downhill series we will be holding the second to last race this Friday, September 11th, on Shotgun with awards, podium and after party held at the Austria Hof. Registration is 3:45pm - 4:15pm outside the Adventure Center. So come out and test your skills against the fastest riders in the Eastern Sierra... Oh yeah and did we mention all the free raffle items? The VCDH Championship Final will be held next Friday at the same time, but we will be holding a "chainless" race on Velocity, so come out and Gwin-It! Beer Re-Releases:
Thanks for everyone's support and Stay Awesome! Sarah/Justin June Lake Brewing
Yes We're Still Ripping! So it's been a hot minute since our last JLBooze Letter (more like two months), but I assure you we're still pumping out Super Awesome Beer. We've been so busy that we've totally neglected all of you out there in cyber land... So without further adieu here's the skinny:
Thanks for your support, and Cheers! Sarah/Justin June Lake Brewing
Accosting Your Earballs ~ That's right, someone is brave enough to allow us onto the radio! Justin and Sarah will be hosting a live beer tasting on San Diego's FM 94.9 Friday, June 5th from 7pm - 8pm. If you're in the SD region you can listen in by simply turning on your FM radio apparatus and tuning it to 94.9. For those of you outside SD you can go to the FM 94.9 website - www.fm949sd.com - and click on the listen live button (blue rectangle in upper left of header next to FM 94.9 logo). Tragically you'll still have to travel to Mono County to personally experience the super awesomeness that is JLB beer. Speaking of beer, everyone needs to prepare their pallets for the amazingness that is the Sasquatchito XPA. To be released at our 1st anniversary party Sunday June 21st (yeah that's just over two weeks away!), this 4.8% Xtra Pale Ale is absurdly dry hopped with a newer hop known as Belma. Think dry, clean, strawberry, pineapple and tropical fruit flavors in a quaffable, light colored package that goes down way too easily. So block off your schedule and come by Sunday the 21st to experience the Sasquatchito for yourself. Lastly we're proud to announce that JLB will be working directly with Mammoth Mountain and the Mammoth Mountain Community Foundation to plan, organize and operate the 2015 Mammoth Village Championship Downhill (VCDH) series! Stay tuned for more info, but just know that Friday June 19th is our first scheduled race so if you're ready to go fast you should probably get up to June a couple days before our anniversary on the 21st and test your skills against the fastest DH riders in the Eastern Sierra. Cheers! Sarah/Justin June Lake Brewing
Winters' Not Done Yet ~ Go figure, as soon as our winter gear got closetized, and we went into full-on bike mode, it started snowing again. Next year we plan to do this in January... Seriously though we really need the water and whatever form we're provided is accepted with open (though now wet) arms. I'm actually watching the next storm pile up over Mt. Wood right now. Regardless our quest to bring Super Awesome Beer to Mono County continues with the re-release of the Silver Lake Saison tomorrow, Friday May 15th! With summer undoubtedly on the way we wanted to bring this crisp, yet funky, low alcohol summer favorite back for 2015. Adulation for the re-release of the Archimedes Red last weekend has also been substantial. Check out the full draft list on the intrawebs - www.junelakebrewing.com/beers On the events front we're five weeks from our first ever anniversary party on Sunday June 21st! Hopefully it'll be snowing... So if you don't have accommodations yet be sure to pack your all-weather tent. In other event news, one day tickets to The Grand Tasting at the 20th Annual Bluesapalooza on Saturday August 1st are now sold out; however, you can still purchase multi-day tickets, or volunteer. Lastly the 3rd Annual June Lake Autumn Beer Festival Super Awesome Beergarten tickets are selling fast, so Get Yours while you still can. Cheers! Sarah/Justin June Lake Brewing
Merry Fishmas ~ With Fishing Opener this Saturday April 25th we'll be releasing the obnoxiously dry hopped Lil' Walker IPA (single IPA at 6.4%) and the fourth rendition of our Killmister Ginger Beer. So come by, say Hi and try some new brews with world (by 'world' we of course mean Mono County) famous super awesome food from Ohanas 395! That's right for the remainder of the spring and summer Rena and the Girls at Ohanas will be open six days a week (mirroring our hours of 11am - 8pm as their food stocks permit)! In MEGA important bike news there's currently a petition addressed to the White House championing legislation to allow mountain bikes in Wilderness Study Areas and Recommended Wilderness Areas. Please take a minute to read and if you at all care about our ability to recreate in a low impact way on our public lands please sign and spread the word - https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/allow-mountain-bikes-wilderness-study-areas-and-recommended-wilderness-areas In other bike related news JLB is working closely with Mammoth Mountain Bike Park (MMBP) to completely revamp the 2015 Village Championship Downhill Race Series (VCDH). In the past this free local race series consisted of six Friday afternoon races that were completely open to anybody willing to register and huck carcass. JLB and MMBP plan to keep this same free entry, grassroots setup, but double the number of races to twelve for the overall championship, bring on super awesome sponsors to donate amazing prizes, and announce the course at least 24hrs prior to race day on both MMBP and JLB's social networks (so ya'll can make a point to getting here for your favorite races). Stay tuned for more info, and in parting we'll leave you with our Director of Visual Awesomness's second foray into MTB visual wondery with Rambo's Rattlesnake Revenge! Cheers! Sarah/Justin June Lake Brewing
From Snow to Bikes ~ With the gravity induced snowsliding season dwindling, we're transitioning into full-on bike mode! The dirt is nice, the trails are fast, and it's perfect hiking/pedaling temperature... So get out there!!! As for Super Awesome Beer, sometimes a beer just doesn't turnout how it's supposed to... When that happens the brewer needs to assess if it's a good problem, or a bad problem. In the case of the forthcoming Sasquatchito IPA, the problem was not good. Suspected poor yeast health produced a slight medicinal taste that was unacceptable. We dumped 900 gallons *sad face*. It would seem Sasquatchito's elusive nature persists, but we at JLB continue the quest to expose this most awesomest of beers to the frothing masses. Though we've been running out of some of our specialty beers (i.e., Not So Hoppy Holiday, Silver Lake Saison, Archimedes Red, and soon to be 8140 Black IPA), we have some good beers on the horizon:
